Herwig, Sylvia J. DEFOREST - Sylvia J.

Herwig, age 79, of DeForest, died on Sunday, March 7, 2004, at Waunakee Manor, in Waunakee. 

Sylvia Jeanette Kvalheim was born in Minnesota on May 4, 1924, to Hans and Clara (Eggum) Kvalheim. On Nov. 14, 1942, she was united in marriage with Charles Herwig. Together, they owned and operated Herwig Oil Company in the DeForest area for 49 years. Sylvia was an accomplished quilter, and enjoyed other crafts and sewing arts. 

She will be sadly missed by her husband, Charles of DeForest; four children, Jon (Laurel) Herwig of DeForest, Doug (Audrey) Herwig of DeForest, Dale (Connie) Herwig of Cedarburg, and Jayne Heisig of Pinehurst, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Tricia (Dan) Allen, Kyle (Loxanne) Herwig, Chris (Sherry) Herwig, Charlie (Holly) Herwig, Brooke Herwig (Jon Holste), Brett Herwig and Brandon Herwig; nine great-grandchildren, a sister, Elaine Paulman of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends. 

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Harry, Donald and Jerome; and a sister, Elizabeth. 

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at CHRIST LUTHERAN CHURCH, 220 S. Main St., DeForest. Pastors Charles D. Peterson and Jerry A. Olson will officiate, with entombment to follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, in Monona. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of services. Memorials are suggested to Christ Lutheran Church. The family wishes to thank the staff at Waunakee Manor for the care and compassion that was given to Sylvia during her last days.
